I think everyone agrees that the hardest thing about blogging is coming up with steady, relevant, and interesting content. When I first started doing this and was really involved in the how-tos and what-you-shouldn'ts of successful blogging, I read a lot of advice on how churning out at least 3 or 4 posts a week is tantamount to building a following. With that in mind, I often felt like I wasn't doing my job when I only managed one a week, if that. Hah. Failing at self-appointed, non-paying jobs is kinda funny, isn't it?

But my good reader, I have come to realize it just isn't that important to hit those marks all the time. I am so, so content to have the ears of a few loyal followers who appreciate my work and acknowledge that my words might make them think for a moment, or are a starting point for change or creation in their own lives. With that in mind, this is what I am committing to here: I promise that if I have something I feel is worth sharing, you are going to hear about it. And I promise that I am never going to fill in the cracks just to keep my stats from dipping. Granted you might not like everything you read, but at least you can always be assured that I am not wasting your time. Because your time is precious, I swear.
Oh, and good news. I have a few things to share, so don't you worry. It might take me a minute to get my thoughts sorted out after spending an inspiring week in paradise meeting and talking with beautiful people who aren't afraid to dream, but I imagine it will come together as it needs to.

Couldn't agree more. I prefer quality posts over quantity. I don't know how some bloggers do it, but many do. 75% of their blogs have gone to shit as a result, however.
ReplyDelete3 posts from me in a week is a lot. In fact, I have many posts already written, but I wait to post them until a later date so that I can spread it out and guarantee that I can put out some good content in the future.
Stephanie: I really like your literary musings. I’ve added Yours in So Many Words to my list of favorite blogs, and have also tagged you—see http://writingwithlight-bonnard3.blogspot.com/2012/02/ive-been-tagged.html for details if you choose to participate; otherwise I hope you won’t mind my having directed a few more visitors your way! And please feel free to visit/follow/comment on Writing with Light if you feel so inclined. I’m a word lover too. Best,
ReplyDelete@ Youngman: I like your idea of holding on to your ideas and then spreading them out. I often go into my notebooks or look to things I've written in the past to come up with posts, and I often find them to be the most compelling.
ReplyDelete@Christie: Thanks for reading, and welcome! I will head your way and check out your blog as well.
